The title of Territory Lord (領主 Ryoushu) is granted to those who have control of a Fragment in Umineko no Naku Koro ni. While the title is synonymous with Game Master in many respects, the title of Territory Lord can only be inherited or passed down, as opposed to Game Masters being appointed simply for creating or opening a gameboard.
The title of the Territory Lord is considered one of utmost honor within one's own fragment. The position is christened with a golden ring with the crest of the one-winged eagle presented to them in a ceremony dedicated to the succession.
It is implied that being married to the territory lord may bestow the same responsibilities and powers which come with the position, as seen in Dawn of the Golden Witch and Twilight of the Golden Witch. The territory lord's spouse is considered their double and their authority is second to none other than the territory lord themselves. This may prompt one to indirectly usurp the territory lord's position via a strategic marriage, the likes of which was observed in Dawn of the Golden Witch. A silver ring with the crest of the one-winged eagle is reserved for the spouse.

Name | Nature of Succession |
---|---|
BATTLER | After reaching the truth of Beatrice's game, Battler Ushiromiya was acknowledged by Lambdadelta and received the golden ring and cape to symbolize his succession. |
Erika Furudo | While Erika never truly became a Territory Lord, she was temporarily appointed as one by Bernkastel in End of the Golden Witch, only to be dismissed shortly after, when Battler Ushiromiya rose to the level of a true territory lord.
In Dawn of the Golden Witch, she marries the territory lord BATTLER in order to monopolize his position, after he had become trapped in a Logic Error and was rendered comatose, using the wedding ceremony as an excuse to steal his ring. She is divested of the ring, after losing to Beatrice in a duel at her own wedding reception. |
Yasuda | The true territory lord and the original creator of Rokkenjima's gameboard. |
