Tatarigoroshi (祟殺し編 Tatarigoroshi-hen, lit. Curse Killing Chapter), also known as the Curse Killing Arc in the manga, is the third story arc and Question Arc of the Higurashi When They Cry series. It was released at Comiket 64 on August 15, 2003 and is followed by Himatsubushi.

The original release of Tatarigoroshi includes the previous two chapters.

Plot Summary[]

After a failed attempt to make dinner, Keiichi Maebara gets help from Satoko Houjou and begins bonding with her in a brother-sister relationship. When Satoko's abusive uncle returns to Hinamizawa, Keiichi becomes determined to protect Satoko at any cost and soon makes a harrowing decision.

Tatarigoroshi first released physically in Japanese at Comiket 64 on August 15, 2003.

Comiket 66[]

Tatarigoroshi rereleased with Himatsubushi at Comiket 66 on August 13, 2004.

First English Release[]

MangaGamer translated the entire Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Question Arcs into English and released it on December 15, 2009. Changes include:

  • Porting from NSCripter to BGI.
  • The minigames that were included in previous versions would be removed from this version and subsequent releases.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Hou[]

This arc was rereleased with Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Hou on August 17, 2014. One change was that some naked Satoko sprites featured in the original arc were removed.

Second English Release[]

MangaGamer retranslated this arc and released it individually on June 17, 2016. Changes include:

  • Porting from NScripter to Unity.
  • New character art by Kurosaki.

The arc has been ported in Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Matsuri, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kizuna Volume I, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Sui, and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Hou.

Manga[]

The manga adaptation of Tatarigoroshi was illustrated by Jiro Suzuki and serialized in Square Enix's GFantasy magazine from June 2005 to June 2006. It was later collected into two volumes. Yen Press published them in English under the title "Curse Killing Arc".

The 2006 Higurashi When They Cry anime by Studio DEEN adapted Tatarigoroshi in Episodes 9 to 13.
