Selcom

	This article is about terminology in Ciconia When They Cry.

A Selcom (セルコン, Serukon) is technology existing in the A3W world that acts like a computer inside people's brains. People can chat with friends in virtual rooms and play games while focusing on other things in the real world. Selcom usage is tied with P3 levels, as higher levels means a Selcom can be used more easily due to the stress it puts on the brain.

Selcoms have had much technology and apps developed for it, but the most popular is Kizuna (キズナ), a translation tool which allows users all over the world to easily form friendships with others.

Selcom also comes with Keropoyo, an AI.

Trivia

• The symbols that appear in Kizuna screens and on error screens are runes. When translated, they spell out verses from the Book of Revelation, partly cut off. The following transcriptions are the corresponding verses from the New International Version:

Top portion:

Revelation 18:17-22. “Every sea captain, and all who travel by ship, the sailors, and all who earn their living from the sea, will stand far off. ¹⁸ When they see the smoke of her burning, they will exclaim, ‘Was there ever a city like this great city?’ ¹⁹ They will throw dust on their heads, and with weeping and mourning cry out:

“‘Woe! Woe to you, great city, where all who had ships on the sea became rich through her wealth! In one hour she has been brought to ruin!’

²⁰ “Rejoice over her, you heavens! Rejoice, you people of God! Rejoice, apostles and prophets! For God has judged her with the judgment she imposed on you.”

²¹ Then a mighty angel picked up a boulder the size of a large millstone and threw it into the sea, and said: “With such violence the great city of Babylon will be thrown down, never to be found again.

²² The music of harpists and musicians, pipers and trumpeters, will never be heard in you again. No worker of any trade will ever be found in you again. The sound of a millstone will never be heard in you again.

The Kizuna screen says "factory" in place of "millstone".

Middle portion:

Revelation 6:5. "When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come!” I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand."

Bottom portion:

Revelation 22:1-11. "Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb ² down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. ³ No longer will there be any curse.
