Umineko no Naku Koro ni: ~Majo to Suiri no Rondo~ (うみねこのなく頃に ~魔女と推理の輪舞曲~, lit. When The Seagulls Cry ~Rondo of the Witch and Reasoning~) is a port of the Umineko no Naku Koro ni Question Arcs for the PlayStation 3 by Alchemist. It was released in Japan on December 16, 2010.
Promotion and Release[]
Alchemist, who previously ported Higurashi When They Cry to consoles, would once again work with 07th Expansion for this new port. The game was first teased on August 13, 2010 in a cross-promotion with Gal Gun when a page showing Gal Gun characters in the style of Umineko's witch portraits went up on Alchemist's website.[1] Subsequent portraits were revealed on later dates, as well as a notice for plans to be revealed at Tokyo Game Show on September 14, 2010.[2] There, Alchemist revealed they were doing a console port of Umineko; Takahito Ekusa, who previously did the PC version's portraits, would be designing new artwork primarily for female characters while FFC would be designing new artwork primarily for male characters.[3]
It was also revealed that the voice cast was almost the same as the cast from the anime, and that the PC version's original soundtrack was completely reused and remastered. A new opening theme, Senkyou no Igrēja, would be composed by Chiyomaru Shikura.[4]
On Alchemist's website, an interactive game and contest called Beatrice's Challenge (ベアトリーチェの挑戦状 Beatorīche no Chōsen-jō) was held where people could answer difficult riddles and win prizes. Some hints were provided on the website pixiv.[5]
Story Arcs[]
- Legend of the Golden Witch
- Turn of the Golden Witch
- Banquet of the Golden Witch
- Alliance of the Golden Witch
The port includes an entirely new character sprite set with additional poses and expressions, the addition of CGs, additional visual effects, the addition of voice acting, and a new opening video. The story is identical to the original source material, with some changes and censorship:
- Jessica's cosplay in the beginning of Turn of the Golden Witch is changed from Marisa Kirisame to a new outfit. Instead of singing Tsurupettan, she sings Swee-Swee☆Sweets!
- A scene in Turn of the Golden Witch with Battler drinking alcohol is changed.
