Oniakashi-hen Part 1 (鬼明し編 其の壱 Oniakashi-hen Sonoichi, Demon-Revealing Chapter Part 1) is the sixth chapter of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Meguri.

Summary[]

Part 1[]

Rena cooks in her house and rips off a calendar page to reveal it's June 10, 1983. Rika wakes up in her shack in a confused state and wonders where she is. Satoko asks her how long she's planning to sleep in, and Rika is horrified to see she's back in 1983 and is looping again. She struggles to remember what happened in her past life: she reunited with a teenage Satoko and met Mion and the club, but can't remember anything past that. Satoko sees how concerned she looks and asks what's wrong, and Rika puts on a happy face and says she just had a bad dream.

Oniakashi 1-1 satoko smirk

Rika goes to wash her face and comes to terms with her situation. She doesn't know why she's looping again, but she swears to escape once again. Satoko gazes at her with a glow in her eyes, predicting what Rika must be thinking. Rika is unsure if she'll continue to loop when she dies since Hanyuu isn't with her, so she needs to move cautiously. She needs to help guide everyone so they don't fall to suspicion, and so they can work together to defeat Takano and overcome this 1983 Hinamizawa.

Meanwhile, Satoko thinks that she needs to get her hands on H-173. She knows where they are thanks to Eua showing her Rika's 100 years, but she still needs a plan to retrieve it. Satoko is certain she can forever repeat this 1983 Hinamizawa.

Rika and Satoko head off for school together while holding hands and smiling.

Part 2[]

Oniaka 1-2 rina appearance

Rena goes outside to see Rina Mamiya bringing home her father on her shoulder. Rina apologizes for coming so early and says her father got drunk at the shop again. Rena looks at her for a bit before smiling and thanking her. As Rina brings her dad inside, the smile on Rena's face disappears.

At school, Satoko notices how sad Rena looks. Rena says she's just lost in thought. Satoko says they need to cheer her up by having some club activities.

The activities end with Satoko getting punched in the face by Rika's trap box. Rena and Satoko rest in the nurse's office, with Satoko asking if Rena will be able to resolve the things she was thinking about that morning. Rena is unsure, and Satoko takes her hand and says they should go home together today. Satoko leaves the office, her eyes glowing.

Oniaka 1-2 rena vs rina

At the junkyard, Rena sits alone and thinks that she needs to do her best so she won't mess up this time, thinking about her childhood with her mother. Rina appears and greets her, saying that she has some important things to discuss: she and Rena's father and dating, and there's talk of getting married. Rena says it's a lie since she saw Rina at a coffee shop in Okinomiya talking to a guy named Tetsu about a golden goose.

Rina gives a nervous laugh and then grabs Rena by the collar, threatening to kill her if she doesn't keep quiet. She says her partner has a temper, but Rena starts talking about how if she noticed her mom's own affair, her family wouldn't have fallen apart. Rena grabs Rina's arm and promises to protect her family's happy life.

Rina remembers her own childhood and lets go of Rena, then leaves without saying another word. At Okinomiya, Rina is smoking her herself when she sees a young girl and her dad. She recalls more childhood memories, including her parents arguing and her mother leaving as a young Rina cries. Rina gazes up into the moonlit sky and thinks she's long forgotten about those days.

Rena is in her junkyard base with her cleaver when Rina appears and knocks on the window. Rina talks to Rena and says she talked to her dad; she broke up with Rena's father and came clean about deceiving him, and is going to pay back all the money he gave her. Rina admits that she was in the wrong and says she had a single parent just like Rena.

Oniaka 1-2 rina childhood

Rina's mother worked at a nightclub and ran away with a customer. Rina's dad was clumsy and deep in debt, and had debt collectors coming every day. The young Rina realized that all of that happened because they never had money, so she grew up being pretty and glamorous, getting money and jewelry and whatever she wanted; she believed it was necessary to attain happiness.

Rina mentions that Rena's dad looks so happy when he talks about him and starts smiling. She promises not to get involved with him anymore and starts to leave the base when Rena stops her. Rena won't forgive her for deceiving her dad, but he did look happier and energetic after meeting Rina. Rena thanks Rina for making her dad smile again and gives a sidelong glance. Rina smiles and leaves.

Soon after, Rena hears something nearby and sees Keiichi reading something. She peeks behind him and sees he's reading an article about the Hinamizawa dam worker dismemberment. Rena panics since they all agreed never to tell Keiichi about it so they wouldn't scare him, and Keiichi suddenly turns around and sees Rena holding her cleaver. They startle each other, and Rena explains she brought the cleaver to dig out a Colonel Sanders statue. Keiichi says he came since he promised to help with that. Keiichi says she startled her, and Rena feels relieved upon hearing that.

Oniaka 1-2 tsumi leak

Rena gushes over the newly dug-out Colonel Sanders statue. Keiichi says he could end up in pieces if she isn't careful, and Rena suddenly recalls memories of killing Rina and chopping up her body. Rena grips Sanders and stares at Keiichi, who gets confused. Rena remembers what's going on and says she can deal with getting Sanders home safely. She gathers rope and tarp in her base as she wonders what those memories were. A higurashi cries in the distance.

Part 3[]

Satoko has a checkup with Takano at the clinic. Rika watches them and thinks that she needs to figure out to stop Takano before the Watanagashi, while she's not taking any significant action. Rika's tried getting Akasaka's help by calling the police, but they wouldn't listen; if she talked to Irie, then word would reach Takano and her people.

Rika settles on Tomitake as the most trustworthy. She finds him out in the village and explains that on the night of Watanagashi, Takano and the Mountain Dogs will kill him, and then kill Rika herself, the queen carrier. Tomitake is confused, and Rika then tells him to call the Bloodhounds. He gets even more confused as to how she knows about them, and Rika explains she knows that Hinamizawa Syndrome research will be shut down, Emergency Manual 34 will be carried out to massacre the villagers, and certain people in Tokyo will benefit from it.

Rika adds that Takano is deeply hurt from her research getting shut down, and that Tomitake is the only one who can mend her. Rika says Takano must be getting desperate and will try to end everything by her own hands, and pleads Tomitake to call the Bloodhounds. Rika thinks to herself that in the world where they worked together, Tomitake believed her story, and that she now needs to watch over her friends to stop them from getting lost in paranoia.

Later, the club attends the Watanagashi Festival and does the Five-Demon Fire Fight. Rena is happy to be playing with her friends like this and strives to keep this happy life going for ever and ever. She prays to Oyashiro-sama during the cotton drifting and thanks him.

That night, Satoko sneaks into the Irie Clinic and sees Tomitake being pinned down by Mountain Dogs as Takano prepares a syringe of H173. Satoko's trap that she prepared during her regular checkup goes off, and the lights suddenly turn off. Satoko then throws out some lit firecrackers, disorienting the Mountain Dogs and giving Tomitake a chance to break free and run away. Satoko then grabs Takano's syringe, throws a firecracker in her face, and runs off. Another Mountain Dog tries to stop Satoko but she throws more firecrackers and escapes through a window. Takano wonders what Satoko was doing.

Tomitake and the Bloodhounds return and tell the Dogs to surrender. Takano yells at Okonogi to do something, but he shows defeat since the Bloodhounds specialize in combat, and their presence means Tokyo's withdrawn their support. The Mountain Dogs peacefully go along with the Bloodhounds as Tomitake consoles a shuddering Takano.

Part 4[]

Satoko heads into the woods and catches her breath, commenting that this method of getting H173 is too risky, and she needs to find a more reliable method next time. Rena walks home from the festival with her teddy bear and thinks about Keiichi taking her hand, believing that her happy days will continue. Suddenly, Rena falls over when a rope trap ties up her legs. As she wonders what's going on, Satoko gets on top of her back and sticks a bag over her head, then zip-ties her hands together and injects her. Satoko comments that this method of injecting people is also a pain to carry out, and cuts the ties on Rena's hands with a pair of scissors before running off.

Rena removes the bag and unties the rope on her legs, catching her breath as the H173 begins to take hold. She leaves behind her teddy bear. Rena makes it home to find Rina waiting for her, who bought a cake from Angel Mort as a gift despite promising she wouldn't come back. Rena's head swirls around with several thoughts: she can't hear Oyashiro-sama's voice anymore and thinks he's angry, and she realizes she needs to protect her happiness. Rena determines she needs to kill Rina and take back her happiness, and squeeze out the parasites.

Rena smiles and says she's planning to go treasure hunting, with Rina confused since it's so late. Rina however decides to come along and asks to put the cake inside the house first. Rena gives her a creepy stare as she goes inside.
