Mifune (三船) is the main antagonist of Yoigoshi-hen. He is a member of the Sonozaki Family that arranged for Akane Sonozaki's assassination in an attempt to become the next head of the family.

Appearance[]

Mifune seems to be a middle aged man. He wears a hakama.

Mifune does not have sprites in the visual novel version.

Personality[]

Mifune is power-hungry and claims to be a firm believer in the Sonozaki family's customs. Despite being at odds with Mion, he still appreciates her combat prowess.

Background[]

Mifune used to be a confidant for Mion's father, who had control of the Sonozaki family. After her father's death, Akane became the next head of the family in place of Mion since she was too young. Mifune's faction wouldn't accept Mion as the new head anyway and broke away from the family, and then attempted to assassinate Akane and take control. There existed a ceremonial handbell that the Sonozakis used to declare the head of the family, which was hidden somewhere in Hinamizawa. Mion and Mifune went there in 2006 in a race to retrieve it first.

Role in the Story[]

Mifune dies

Mifune and his henchmen have been isolating Mion's group by getting rid of their vehicles and trying to eliminate them. They get rid of Arakawa's motorcycle and Yae's car, and attack the latter only for her to retreat to the Furude Shrine.

A group of henchmen soon surround the shrine assembly hall, but Mion nonlethally takes them out. Mion, Otobe, and Arakawa then head to the Sonozaki main house to find the handbell, where Mifune and more men await them. Mifune leaves his men to take care of them and runs away.

Mifune reappears right when Otobe successfully retrieves the handbell using the Tamahajiki no Katana. He holds him at gunpoint and demands the bell, but Otobe stands his ground. Arakawa then appears and charges into Mifune, but he knocks him away. Right when Mifune is about to shoot, Mion arrives and cuts him down. Mion obtains the bell and leaves Hinamizawa with the rest of her comrades.
