Overview

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai (ひぐらしのなく頃に解, lit. When the Cicadas Cry Solution), also referred to as Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Answer Arcs (ひぐらしのなく頃に 解答編 Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kaitō-hen)[1], is the second half of the Higurashi When They Cry series and contains arcs 5 to 8 of the story. It is also referred to as When they cry 2 in the overall When They Cry franchise.

Chapter 5: Meakashi[]

After escaping from her boarding school in 1982, Shion Sonozaki hides out in Okinomiya from the rest of the Sonozaki Family and tries to live life as normal. She soon meets Satoshi Houjou and falls in love, and as time passes and Oyashiro-sama's curse claims more victims, Shion struggles to find answers.

Chapter 6: Tsumihoroboshi[]

This chapter has perspectives switching between Keiichi Maebara and Rena Ryuugu. Rena's divorced dad is dating a new woman named Rina. When Rina tries to break their family apart, Rena takes it upon herself to solve her problems. Keiichi and the rest of the club do their best to help Rena with the aftermath, and things start spiraling out of control when Rena uncovers a conspiracy.

Chapter 7: Minagoroshi[]

Rika Furude has traveled through countless Fragments with the help of Hanyuu in her search for a happy ending. This Fragment looks to be the same as any other until Keiichi succeeds in breaking fate. Renewed with confidence, Rika becomes determined to change her own fate until unforeseen events occur.

Chapter 8: Matsuribayashi[]

The true culprit's motivations are revealed, and the events leading up to June 1983 are recounted. Rika and Hanyuu bet everything on one final Fragment in an attempt to reach a happy ending for everyone.

Adaptations[]

Main article: Higurashi When They Cry Kai (anime)

A namesake anime series was aired in 2007 as a direct sequel to the 2006 anime, which already includes Meakashi and Tsumihoroboshi. It adapts a Tsumihoroboshi TIP, Minagoroshi, and Matsuribayashi and includes an exclusive arc.
