Plot Summary

Hajisarashi-hen (羞晒し編, lit. Shame Exposing Chapter) is an extra arc from Higurashi When They Cry. It was first released as a booklet alongside a special edition for Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Matsuri.


"Mii—! I want to go to the pool with everyone." One day after school in July, while the weather was still hot, Rika suggests that the club members go to the pool. Everyone agrees, and they meet at the public pool on Sunday ... . But on the day of the trip, Keiichi forgets his swim trunks!

"If I don't do something, Rena and the others are going to put me in a terrible situation!" A helping hand comes to his aid from an unexpected source. Keiichi gratefully accepts the favor, but... at the same time, the devil is whispering, and a tragedy is about to unfold...![1]

Original Release

Hajisarashi-hen was first released in booklet form with the first-run limited edition of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Matsuri on February 22, 2007. It features illustrations by rato and bonus artwork by Higurashi manga artists.

Drama CD

A drama CD adaptation released on August 2007. The drama CD version has a notable change in that it features the character Hanyuu, who would continue to be featured in later adaptations.


Hajisarashi-hen was adapted as the first episode of the Higurashi When They Cry Rei anime, airing on February 25, 2009.

Kizuna Visual Book

The text story was republished in the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kizuna Visual Book, released on February 25, 2010.


This arc was adapted into visual novel format in Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Sui, releasing on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita on March 12, 2015.

It rereleased with Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Hou on July 26, 2018 for the Nintendo Switch and January 24, 2019 for the PlayStation 4.
