Appearance[]

Genji appears as a tanned, slim and old man with short white hair and wears a butler uniform with the One-Winged Eagle Crest. He is quite tall, has a light skin complexion and black eyes.

In the manga, as a young man, he had jet black hair falling down his shoulders with rather curly bangs falling down his eyes. He usually kept his hair tied up with a ribbon. As Genji got older, he grew a mustache.

Personality[]

In the past, he shared a rivalry with Kinzo. According to Kinzo, even though Genji was a serious and silent individual, he was a schemer who would shamelessly scam others. In present times, he was still stoic but strict, as was expected of the chief butler. He is also very devoted to Kinzo for having helped him in the past.

Abilities[]

Genji has some proficiency in throwing knives. He also an ability similar to Ronove where he can manifest roses to euthanize people. Genji is said to have other magical combat abilities in Last note of the Golden Witch, however these are not properly shown.

Background[]

The Twilight of the Golden Witch manga shows that Genji used to live in Taiwan and was born into a rich family, meeting Kinzo as kids. In later years, they became best friends until Kinzo was forced to live in Japan after the Great Kanto Earthquake.

Several years later, chaos erupted in Taiwan when the Chinese government tried to seize control. Kinzo came back and offered to pay for Genji's family to escape to Japan, but Genji was the only one who accepted that offer. Genji would then devote his life to serving his friend.

Overview[]

Role In the Story[]

Legend of the Golden Witch[]

Genji is first introduced in the prologue of the episode, where he listens to Kinzo's ravings about Beatrice.

On the morning of October 5th, Genji and Kanon discover that several people are missing and find their corpses locked in the garden storehouse.

Later, Genji and Kanon also discover that Eva and Hideyoshi were killed on the second twilight.

After Kanon's death, the survivors move to the study, where a letter from Beatrice is suddenly found. Genji, the servants and Maria are then forced to go to the parlor on account of suspicion. Some time later, the group in the study receives a call from the parlor and heads down there to find that the servants, Genji included, were killed with their faces destroyed.

Found in the parlor. He had a weapon resembling an ice-pick sticking out of his stomach, and his face had been smashed.

At the sixth twilight, gouge the stomach and kill.

Turn of the Golden Witch[]

After the first twilight, Genji and Shannon head to Kinzo's study to help him write a will. Afterwards, Genji and the other servants face suspicion from Rosa regarding the murders.

Genji bears witness to a fake Kanon killing Nanjo and Kumasawa, using a handkerchief with a spiderweb attached to destroy the illusion. When Genji, Gohda and Shannon return with the rest of the group, Nanjo and Kumasawa's corpses suddenly disappear.

Later, Genji stays behind in the kitchen when George's group goes to retrieve Natsuhi's spirit mirror, and he later rediscovers Nanjo and Kumasawa's corpses.

At the end of the episode, Genji takes Battler to meet Beatrice inside the study. Beatrice soon celebrates her resurrection and hosts a grand party, with Genji acting as an announcer. He is soon torn apart by the attending goat demons.

Missing

Selfless furniture seeks nothing but repose in the Golden Land. However, since a fool obstinately rejects the Golden Land, it seems his time of repose is unlikely to come soon.

Afterwards, he was torn to pieces and eaten by demons and went to hell.

Banquet of the Golden Witch[]

On the night of October 4th, Genji witnesses Kanon attempting to do battle with the Seven Stakes of Purgatory and failing. Genji uses his magical powers to give Kanon and Shannon peaceful deaths before Ronove does the same to him. Genji is then used in a closed-room chain the first twilight.

His body was found in the VIP room on the second floor.

The weapon used on him is assumed to be a gun or spear-shaped object.

To thank Genji for his many years of service, let us allow him to rest in the VIP room.

Alliance of the Golden Witch[]

Genji is killed in the first twilight when the Chiesters' bow destroys his head.

His corpse was found in the dining hall. About half of his head was destroyed. It's probably reasonable to assume that he was murdered with a powerful gun or something similar.

However, the witnesses don't believe he was killed with a gun...

When Jessica takes her test against Ronove, it is noted that Ronove used Genji as a vessel.

End of the Golden Witch[]

Genji is killed in the first twilight.

His corpse was found in the servant waiting room on the first floor of the mansion.

The direct cause of death is unknown, but his neck was sliced open by a sharp blade. The wound was deep enough that anyone could easily confirm his death with absolute certainty.

Dawn of the Golden Witch[]

Alive by the time of the game's suspension.

Requiem of the Golden Witch[]

When Yasu tells their story, it is revealed that Genji discovered Yasu's survival after the cliff incident, bringing them to the Fukuin House and later making them a servant. Later, Genji gives them a hint needed to solve the epitaph, bringing them to Kinzo soon after.

In the Tea Party, he was killed offscreen by Kyrie.

Twilight of the Golden Witch[]

Was killed on the First Twilight of Bernkastel's appears.

Twilight of the Golden Witch (manga)[]

In Confession of the Golden Witch, Genji offers to become an accomplice for Yasu's murders, having contributed greatly to their suffering.

Trivia[]

  • Shannon and Kanon were originally going to have the last name Ronoue, implying they would've been Genji's children.[2]
  • Ryukishi07 suggests that Genji's last name of Ronoue was a temporary name made up by Kinzo, and involved his occult obsession.[3]
