8MS

The Eight Million System (エイトミリオンズシステム, Eito mirionzu shisutemu), known shorthand as 8MS or Eimiss (エイミス, Eimisu), is a series of nanomachine systems present throughout the A3W world.

History

Named after a Japanese belief that eight million kami existed in all things, 8MS was first invented in B3W by the Yaoyorozu Nanotech Firm and designed to alter the Earth’s environment to make it more habitable to humans. The original 8MS created was capable of self-replication and filled the entire atmosphere. Since then, countless types of 8MS have been designed for various functions, from purifying the atmosphere and eliminating odors to affecting the rate at which plants grow.

8MS is also present within the human body, with Gauntlet Knights using Anti-G 8MS, necessary implants that allow them to perform Ricochet Flying without destroying their bodies.

The widespread nature of 8MS and the potential for harm to the body is present, but creation of malicious 8MS is theoretically impossible due to how tightly the International Peace Mediation Association monitors 8MS research worldwide.

Trivia

• Yaoyorozu (八百万) literally means "eight million" in Japanese. However, its usage is more idiomatic in nature as it refers to something "uncountable".
• Yaoyorozu may also be a reference to Oyashiro-sama from Higurashi When They Cry. The second kanji in Yaoyorozu (百) contains the kanji for shiro (白) and the third kanji (万) is used in another kanji that can be read as "sama" (方). Thus, Yaoyorozu can be read as "Yashiro-sama."
