Story[]
Rika, Satoko, Hanyuu, and Nao are at the library looking for books for a book report. Nao mentions the reports are being sent in to a prefecture-sponsored contest. Satoko is looking for a certain book but it’s already been borrowed, which Nao happens to have. Nao gives it back, and Satoko laments that she’s bad at reading books. Nao says that book reports were originally intended for children who didn’t have an interest in reading normally to experience and enjoy a book, and that it’s changed over time so that it feels like busywork. Nao recommends that Satoko talk to Chie to get a book unrelated to the context and write about that.
Rika thanks Nao for her advice, and Nao says she’s just repeating what her advisor told her; Nao actually enjoys reading and likes writing book reports. Beatrice hears this and welcomes Nao into the Meta-World. Upon seeing her, Nao regains all of her memories of her prior meeting with Beatrice, and the witch sees someone else is tampering with her memories. Nao gets worried but Beatrice says it must’ve been a way to protect her since it was an irregular game.
Beatrice needs to cure her boredom and so wants Nao to spectate one of her stories. Beatrice has used Rokkenjima in many game boards, but this time there will be a different locked-room murder incident. More of Nao’s memories return, and she remembers that an explosion happened on Rokkenjima in October 1986 that killed the gathered Ushiromiya family. Nao decides to spectate the game, and suddenly falls through a hole.
Nao suddenly appears with a Chiester Sister outfit and flies through the air, landing in the Rokkenjima mansion courtyard. Nao must wait for the boat from Nijima to come, where she will experience the events on Rokkenjima through Battler’s eyes. Beatrice also explains that Nao’s outfit is the uniform worn by her battle furniture, so that essentially makes Nao Beatrice’s furniture too. Nao is confused as to her not actually playing the game, and Beatrice says the game is between her and Battler, so Nao isn’t really her opponent. Thus far, only Bernkastel and Lambdadelta have spectated, so Beatrice wants to shake things up. Nao finally begins the game and enters the game board.
Nao finishes viewing Battler’s perspective of Legend of the Golden Witch and relays her thoughts. Battler was the one who closed the curtains on this story, with Beatrice saying it was a "time over" kind of ending since the clock ran out. Nao says the entire story is in bad taste: she doesn’t know how much of it is real and how much of it is a lie, since there are tricks meant to deceive readers. Beatrice asks if she’s denying her existence, and Nao says she doesn't know since she was seeing things through Battler's eyes, and so was privy to his own biases and experiences. Nao does understand that the story’s purpose is to present a possible truth of what happened on the island, and that it’s trying to convey a message since she doesn’t understand the theme yet. Beatrice is intrigued; Nao explains that every story she’s read so far has a theme, and is convinced that Legend of the Golden Witch has a hidden theme because it was amusing. Beatrice cackles in delight, admiring Nao for calling her story amusing and finding joy in having a miko reading to her. Beatrice wants to have Nao read another game board of hers someday, but until then she’ll need to get permission from “that guest”, and that if they get angry then they may wipe Nao’s memory again. Beatrice sends Nao back to the human world as she pleads to stay.
Nao wakes up back in the library and calls out to nobody, surprising Rika, Satoko, and Hanyuu with her loud voice. Rika says Nao got sleepy as they were waiting for her to give Satoko writing tips. Hanyuu asks Nao what she was yelling just now, and Nao figures she must’ve been reading a good book in her dreams. Nao then says she suddenly feels like reading mysteries and goes to check out some books.
